United Women in Faith – March News
Friday, Feb 9th – Seventy (70) PB&J Lunches were made and delivered to the Open Door Mission. It takes about 4 large (40oz) peanut butter jars, 7-8 16oz jelly jars and 14 loaves of bread to make 140 sandwiches that go into decorated bags. We include a juice box or small water, a chip snack, and a granola bar. This activity starts with the UWF Purpose and a devotion. Some ladies take kitchen duty to make the sandwiches in an assembly line fashion. You always hear a lot of laughter and chatter from the kitchen.
The rest of the ladies decorate the lunch bags with encouraging words, stickers, and art work. Then it’s time to fill the decorated bags with all those goodies and deliver them to the Open Door Mission building on North Plymouth. The young man who helped me unload this time was very appreciative as they were totally out of lunches and said they had just started planning what to make, and would have made due somehow for Saturday. Again we were just in time to help out in a time of need. Warmed my heart. We’ll be doing this again on April 19th. Even if you don’t want to make the lunches, we could always use some supplies or a donation for the supplies. Supply list will be on the bulletin board towards the end of March.
Feb 18th was Women’s Sunday. Rev. Megan Hoose provided the message highlighting the work of Crafting for Good. Crafting for Good is a nonprofit located in North Chili that is dedicated to funding food and clean water where needed. We are exploring ways on how we can help them with their mission as part of our Creation Care project commitment.
Reminder UWF is hosting Coffee Hour the month of March. Please sign up for a Sunday in March on the CARE Coffee Hour sign up sheet.
Our next meeting is Monday, March 11th, 7pm. We’ll be discussing the Creation Care project and participating in this year’s “A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial” program.
From the UWFaith.org: “For more than 150 years, United Women in Faith members have taken action to turn faith, hope, and love into work on behalf of women, children, and youth in every corner of the world. As an annual part of our action, United Women in Faith invites women from all over to gather locally and participate in A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial.
This yearly event is a faith-filled time when we assemble with lifted hearts and hands to celebrate selfless giving for a common cause and spiritual communion with God. A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial’s 2024 offering will support the ongoing climate justice work of United Women in Faith’s National Office. We invite you to gather, pray, reflect, and put your faith into action.
As God’s people, we are called to give generously to help others. Generosity looks different for everyone, the Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 8:12 that all gifts are acceptable when given with a willing and eager heart.”
GV District UWF Communion Brunch is Saturday, March 23rd, 9:30am. $10/person. Carpooling from the church is offered, leaving at 9:00am. We’ll be going to Fairport UMC to experience the “Food, Faith, and Fellowship” with other women from across our district. Sign up sheet is posted on the bulletin board and registration needs to be paid to Lori McComb or Kathy Krisher by Thursday, March 14th.
God Loves You!
