November News
At our last meeting on Monday, Oct 13th our focus was on the UWF’s annual World Thank Offering. The World Thank Offering is a way for members of United Women in Faith to show gratitude for God’s blessings and find creative ways to raise funds to improve the lives of women, children and youth. Through the World Thank Offering, you support the total program of mission carried on through United Women in Faith’s national office in the United States and around the world. The guiding scripture lesson was Mark 12:41-44 (The Widow’s Offering). In this passage, Jesus observes a poor widow who gives all she has to the temple treasury, emphasizing that true giving is not about the amount but the sincerity and sacrifice involved. We were encouraged to reject a mindset of scarcity (which breeds hoarding and isolation) and instead choose generosity and community connection, as an expression of faith and hope in a positive future, even if you don’t feel wealthy or secure right now. Our offering collected $200 to send on to the UWF National Office.
Thanks to all who contributed to a “Christmas Kitchen” basket for Aurora House. Aurora House is located in Spencerport and offers end of life care for many in our community. They hold an annual “Baskets and Brunch” fundraiser. This year UWF was able to assemble a basket worth $133 and adorn it with a beautiful “Sharon Kelly” bow.
Our next meeting is November 10th, 7pm Church conference room. We’ll be doing officer’s elections, Christmas Potluck planning and decide where our fundraising money will go. It’s a rewarding time of year as we pick the fruits of our labor and pass them out to our local community and beyond.
Our last ODM Grab & Go Lunch Making session for the year is Friday, November 14, 10am-12noon (Kitchen and Adams Hall). A Supply Sign up and a Volunteer Sign up sheet are up in the narthex. You can donate items or money to supplies, just see Kathy K or Lori M. We need volunteers to decorate a few bags and assemble them.
Heads up for December, UWF will be collecting children’s underwear for Saints Place all month long. A box will be placed in the narthex after Thanksgiving.
“Life can be challenging, but God’s joy is always accessible in any given situation. May you find joy this month even in the most mundane tasks.” (from hopenomatterwhat.com)
